PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE FOR SEQUOYAH RESTART ACTIVITIES
Purpose:
To inform the Commission of the Office of Special Projects' (OSP) s;hedule of licensing and inspection activities related to restart of Sequoyah Unit 2.
Discussion:
Attached for your information is a preliminary schedule prepared by OSP of licensing and inspection activities related to restart of Sequoyah Unit 2.
This schedule, which indicates the plant could be ready for non-nuclear heatup in late August, reflects input from TVA regarding its schedule for submittal of technical information and resolution of concerns. However, the schedule for criticality is uncertain in that the staff is requiring an independent vertical design / construction review of one safety related schedule.
system and this effort has not yet been factored into the Furthermore, the attached schedule is probably optimistic in that it assumes that no problems will be encountered in resolving identified issues and that no new problems will arise. Notwithstanding, the schedule is useful in depicting the many staff activities currently underway to resolve the numerous TVA issues at Sequoyah.
The staff anticipates briefing the Commission on the status of TVA Sequoyah activities in late July and, at that time, should have a more realistic for resumption schedule on when the plant will be ready of operation.
