Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 l

50-306 DPR-60 Notice of Forthcoming Revision to Report NSPLMI-96001, Individual Plant i

Examination of External Events (IPEEE), Appendix B (Internal Fires Analysis)

Related to Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 4 in December 1996, NSP submitted report NSPLMI-96001, PINGP Individual Plant I

Examination for External Events (IPEEE), in response to Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 4. Included in that submittal was an analysis of the plant risk due to internal fires (Appendix B). The purpose of this letter is to inform you that a significant reanalysis of fire risk is undenvay and a revision to this section of the IPEEE report will be issued later this year. This will likely affect your current review of this section of the IPEEE report.

NSP's Prairie Island plant has been selected as a pilot plant for the NRC's Fire Protection Functional Inspection (FPFI) program. As part of the preparations for the upcoming FPFI at the PINGP, an independent review of the IPEEE fire risk analysis was conducted. Based on the findings of this review, NSP has decided to enhance the current analysis to more thoroughly treat elements of the Fire IPEEE. Work is currently underway to upgrade the study. No changes to the conclusions of the original IPEEE fire analysis (i.e., no vulnerabilities to severe accidents due to internal fires) have been identified or are expected as a result of this reanalysis.
