Dear Mr. Jain:
This letter refers to your January 30,1998, correspondence describing your need to extend the completion date for conducting an evaluation of the adequacy of surveillance procedures that implement technical specification requirements to ensure that the procedures properly implemented the required testing. The new completion date established is April 1,1998. The NRC Region I acknowledges this commitment date l
extension. However, in the future, we would appreciate it if you would make us aware of the need and justification for extensions prior to the week originally committed to.
1 Your cooperation with us is appreciated.
Sincerely,
/

BV-1, LER 97 036-00 dated December 12,1997 In the correspondence referenced above, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) committed to conduct an evaluation of the adequacy of surveillance procedures that implement technical specification requirements to ensure that the procedures properly implemented the required testing. The schedule provided for the completion of this evaluation, including appropriate procedure revisions was January 30, 1998.
The majority of this effort has been completed, however, additional reviews remain to be completed. Recent findings durmg these reviews warrant the extension of scope and the need to extend the completion of this action to April 1,1998. Based on the fact that following the performance of surveillances that resulted from this review, equipment operability was found acceptable, DLC believes that the extension request does not represent a challenge to plant safety.
