Status of Thermo-Lag Resolution.1st O 1998 Update j
As described in April 3,1997 meeting, Thermo-Lag (T-L) replacement effort is a five Phase approach.
Phase I was completed in 4Q1996.
T-L was removed from circuits in 3 rooms.
T-L was replaced on fire dampers in 5 rooms.
Phase II consists of replacement of T-L on CTMT radiant energy shields.
Design has been completed via issuance of a Supplement to the MOD package.
Work requires an outage of sufficient duration (planned for 11RFO, which is scheduled to e
commence 4/11/98).
Phase III was completed in IQ98 and consisted of removal of most of the remaining accessible T-L (i.e., except CTMT and annulus) and installation of altemate material on circuits and structural steel in selected rooms.
T-L was removed from circuits in 5 rooms.
T-L was installed on circuits in 2 rooms.
T-L was removed from structural steelin 3 rooms.
T-L was removed and replaced from structural steel in 6 rooms.
Phase IV is scheduled for 2Q97 to 2Q98(11RFO) and consists of replacing annulus radiant energy shields with 3-hr rated alternate barrier, and completing Phase 11.
E Design work for the annulus fire barriers is complete.
E.,
Fire test for the annulus design has been successfully completed.

- Design work is in progress.
M-Physical work is scheduled to commence in 3Q98.
6 00 gg Other Items:
For several installations, where further analysis shows that fire barrier protection is no longer e
o-required, the Thermo-Lag fire barrier may be abandoned-in place in lieu of removing it.
$o Any Thermo-Lag which has been abandoned-in-place will continue to be taken into account
@8 in the fire loading for the area. In addition, NRC Information Notice 95-049 Supplement 1,
'@g
" Seismic Adequacy of Thermo-Lag Panels," dated December 10,1997, will be addressed.

MOD 96-0005, was completed week of 3/2/98, modifying CCW pump control circuitry to
