Gentlemen:
This. refers to the inspection conducted by L. D. Gilbert of this office during
,the period March 23-27, 1987, of activities authorized by NRC Operating License
DPR-40 for the Fort Calhoun Station, and to the discussion of our findings with
Mr. W. G. Gates and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
The~ area. examined during the inspection was the welding of safety-related
piping and structures. -Within this area, the inspection consisted of selective
examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with
personnel, and observations' by the NRC inspector. The inspection findings are
. documented in the enclosed inspection report.
During this inspection, it was found that certain of-your activities appear to
be in violation of.NRC requirements. As discussed in our telephone conversation-
on May 8, 1987, with you, we have scheduled an enforcement conference in our
office'at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) on May 14, 1987, to discuss your understanding of the
apparent: violation, the reasons for- the occurrence, and your corrective actions.
Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to
discuss them with you.
