Dear Mr. Masnik:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)

Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Comments of Draft Supplement 2 to the Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement - Three Mile Island Unit 2 GPU Nuclear letter 4410-87-L-0032 dated March 17, 1987, provided comments on Draf t Supplement 2 to the Programatic Envirorrnental Impact Statement - Three Mile Island Unit 2 (PEIS). Our purpose in providing those comments was to clarify, for the record, the dif ferences in methodologies used by the NRC and CPU Nuclear in arriving at similar off-site dose consequence conclusions as published in the PEIS and GPU Ntx: lear letter 4410-86-L-Oll4 dated July 31, 1986, respectively. Coincidentally, the comments provide a basis to respond to inquiries concerning the variations in the published dose estimates.

However, it is essential that the record reflect GPU Nuclear's unqualified endorsement of the NRC conclusion that disposal of the accident-generated water can be accomplished without incurring significant environmental impact.
