Naidu of this office on lL' March 31 and April 1,1987, of your facility at Orange, California, and to the discussions of our findings with you and members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection. The purpose of this inspection was to review the corrective action taken on-l a 10 CFR Part 21 item reported by you on August 30, 1984, review selected records pertaining-to the hydraulic actuators supplied to the South Texas Nuclear Power Project _and to witness tests performed at ITT NeoDyn,^ Chatsworth, i California, on pressure switches which were returned to you. Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the enclosed report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of an examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector. The preliminary results of the tests indicate that the pressure switches i manufactured by ITT NeoDyn and installed by you in the hydraulic operators l supplied to the South Texas Project Nuclear Power Plant leaked oil due to 2 contamination in the hydraulic oil which may heve been the result of improper storage of the hydraulic operators during the period of two years. In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room. 1 Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we'will be pleased l to discuss them with you.
