Dear Sir:

In accordance with the provisions set forth in 10 CFR 50.55a(g), Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) hereby submits the Interval 2 In-Service Testing Program (IST) for pumps and valves for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Unit Nos. I and 2 (see Attachments 1 and 2). The program conforms to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI,1980 Edition through the winter 1981 Addenda. The updated IST Program is applicable for the 120-month interval which began, for both units, on July 10, 1986.

In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a, Paragraph g 5 (iv), exceptions from the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code requirements applicable to the first interval which CP&L found to be impractical and which have not yet been identified to the NRC are provided in.
