FOR OCTOBER 11 - 19, 1986 1.

DEFUELING The core drilling rig hx been installed on the shielded work platform and the debris bed cleared of end fittings in preparation for drilling operations. The drilling operations are expected to begin on Nonday, October 20, 1986 2.

ENVIRONMENT /L MONITORING US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sample analysis results show that THI site liquid effluents are in accordance with regulatcry limits, NRC requirements, and The City of Lencaster Agreenent.

The Lancaster water sample taken at the water works river intake and analyzed by EPA consisted of a seven day composite sample taken September 28 - October 4,1986. A gar.raa scan detected no reactor related activity.

Ttil water samples taken by EPA at the plant discharge (includes Units 1 and 2) to the river consisted of seven daily composite sanples taken froa September 27 - October 4,1986. A gemia scan detected no reactor related activity.

The EPA analyses of the NRC outdoor air s6mple for the period October 9 - 16, 1986 showed that concentrations of Cs-137 and I-131 were below the lower lirait of quantitative detection (LLD) for the system. The LLD varies around a value of IE-13 uCi/cc.

EVALUATIONS CO !Pi.ETED Tha NRC staff approved CPUil's Cora Bore Operutions Safety Evaluation Report (SE.7) on October 16, 1986. This pcnaits expanded use of tha ccra drilling rig as a defueling tool. The drill rig will bc used to drill hales in the hard crust un tcp uf the core. The drilling is lir:ited to the crea above the lower cora grid and within a 4ds" radius of cera cantar. Drilling operattuns era expected to Inst several ucuks.
