Dear Dr. Grace:
BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) - SPECIAL NUCLEAR MATERIAL INVENTORY This report is made in accordance with 10 CFR 70.52(a). On October 14, 1986 at about 1830 CDT, five fuel loading chambers that are a part of the Special Nuclear Material (SNM) Inventory at BFN were determined to be lost.
Each of them containea about two grams of enriched Uranium 235. An investigation relative to the SNM loss is in progress.
On the evening of October 14, 1986, this was reported by telephone to the NRC Duty Specialist in Bethesda, Maryland, and to the NRC Senior Site Resident at BFN.
We will keep the Resident Inspectors updated on this issue as our investigation reveals additional information.
