3 APR 2 81987 Mr. James R. Anderson, Project Manager Uranium Mill Tailings Project Office U.S. Department of Energy P.O. Box 5400 Albuquerque, NM 87115

Dear Mr. Anderson:

As you may already know, the Nuclear Regulatory Comission (NRC) has been reorganized, effective as of April 12, 1987. This letter is to inform you of changes with regard to UMTRAP which may affect our day-to-day business.

Although several individuals in the uranium recovery staff in the Washington, D.C. offices have been reassigned, there will be a transition period during which they will continue to be the contacts for specific site remedial activities. The changes are as follows:

1.

NRC will execute its UMTRA progran responsibilities principally through the Operations Branch (LLOB) in the Division of Low-level WasteManagementandDecommissioning(LLWM). The Acting Branch Chief is Paul H. Lohaus, and he will have signature responsibility for the NRC on routine matters concerning UMTRAP. He replaces Malcolm R. Knapp and Leo B. Higginbotham on correspondence directed to NRC.

2.

Work in the the Operations Branch will be coordinated in the Uranium Recovery Section. The Section Leader is Myron Fliegel, and he replaces Dan E. Martin.

3.

Daniel Gillen and Mark Haisfield have been reassigned, but they will continue to coordinate NRC activities associated with specific inactive sites as in the past.

4.

Giorgio Gnugnoli will assume Mr. Gillen's overall coordination responsibilities and should be provided courtesy cover copies of any transmittals to NRC regarding UMTRAP.

Those assignments handled by the Uranium Recovery Field Office in Denver, Colorado, have not been affected by this reorganization.

I have enclosed a copy of the pertinent pages of the revised organizational charts for your information.
