Dear Dr. Murley:
Our letters of January 30, 1986 and March 31, 1986 provided a status of our Engineering Assurance Program. Our letters indicated that several items remained open and were scheduled for completion by the end of the third and fourth quarters of 1986.
This letter is to inform you of the status of those three items.
Cable Routing Criteria (1/30/86 letter)
A draft cable routing criteria document has been prepared. A significant amount of manpower is required to develop this criteria into a form usable by the Design Engineering staff.
However, in light of' manpower required for other high priority items such as Configuration Management, Vendor manuals, Torque Switch Settings, etc. It is necessary to delay completion of this criteria until June 30, 1987.
In the interim, all modifications will be reviewed by those individuals who would be invol.ved in finalization of this criteria.
Fire Protection System Description (1/30/86 letter)
In order to develop the Fire Protection system description, an extensive effort woo:1 be required on the part of the Fire Protection Engineer.
Due to a recent retirement of the Fire Protection Engineer from the Nine !!1le Point Unit I site, it became necessary to move the Fire Protection Engineer from Syracuse to the site.
This will result in a delay until December 31, 1987 for completion of this system description.
However, all modifications will be reviewed by individuals with expertise in fire protection.

October 10, 1986 Page 2 Material and Installation Specification for Paint (3/31/86 letter)
The need for a specification regarding safety related painting is being re-evaluated in light of the Commission's recent decision on coating at Comanche Peak (NUREG-0797, Suppl. No. 9).
Any need for safety related coatings arising before a plant specific evaluation is complete will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Routine painting will be handled by use of the Corporate Coating Manual.
He will keep you informed on the status of these items.
