T cfnaal DEC 171986 South Carolina Electric and Gas Company ATTN:/ Mr. D. A. Nauman, Vice President Nuclear Operations P.'0. Box 764 (167)

Columbia, SC 29218 Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

ENVIRONMENTAL DATA TRANSMISSION T0.THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA This is to document discussions held during the telephone conversation of November 7, 1986, between Douglas M. Collins of the NRC and J. Connelly and W.

Barber (Summer).

This telephone conversation was in response to our letter of October 23, 1986, which encouraged full cooperation between SCE8G and the State of South Carolina.

During this conversation, representatives of SCE&G expressed their willingness to cooperate fully with the State.

During subsequent conversations with State of South Carolina personnel, State representatives indicated that the State had not clearly expressed to licensee personnel that iodine data from a Summer control air station was required. The current Summer control air station that is co-located with the State's station does not have a charcoal cartridge for radioiodine determinations. The State has a need for iodine data from control station charcoal cartridge; this control station does not have to be co-located with the State's.

It is our understanding that you will provide such data in the future.

State personnel have indicated that program coordination involving environmental sample splits and analytical data transmission has proceeded smoothly.

The NRC appreciates Sunrner's interest in the environmental split sample program and encourages continued cooperation.

If there are any questions or problems concerning this program, please contact Ms. S. Adamovitz of the NRC RII staff at (404) 331-5591.

Sincerely, David M. Verrelli, Chief Reactor Projects Branch 2 Division of Reactor Projects cc:
