Inspection Report No. 50-354/86-44
A routine safety inspection of your solid radioactive waste preparation, packag-
ing and shipping program was conducted by Mr. H. Bicehouse of this office on
September 8-12, 1986. Our findings were discussed with Mr. R. Salvesen and
others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection on September 12, 1986.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspec-
tion Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspec-
tion consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative records,
interviews with personnel and observations and measurements by the inspectors.
We also reviewed your actions taken in response to previously identified items.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations or deviations were noted.
However, the recent reorganization of the radiation protection group onsite is
unresolved.
In addition, your preparation, packaging and shipping program
needs to be fully developed prior to your first shipment to an authorized waste
disposal site.
No reply to this letter is required. Your cooperation with us in this matter
is appreciated.
