HRC 1111-2 CLEANUP PROJECT DIRECTORATE llEEKLY STATUS REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 29 - OCTOBER 5 1986 1.
D_EFUELING Removal of end fittings from the debris bed continued throughout the week and was completed during the weekend. Twenty-tuo end fittings were renoved using a three point gripper. Three were placed in fuel Cdnisters, the remaining 19 were stored in five end fitting storage druas. Recoval of the end fittings has cleared the bed for additional core boring.
Pick and place defueling is now in progress and will continue until the licensee begins installation of the core bore equipment in about one week.
Water clarity has improved significantly as a result of Defueling liater Cleanup System (DWCS) operations. Long-tena water clarity continues to be a problem and is compounded by the short operational lifetime of DWCS filters.
Efforts continue to solve the clarity and filter plugging problems.

ENVIR0fa! ENTAL liONITORING US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sample analysis results show that TitI site liquid effluents are in accordance with regulatory limits, NRC requirements, and The City of Lancaster Agreement.
The Lancaster water sample taken at the water works river intake and analyzed by EPA consisted of a seven day composite sample taken September 14 - 20, 1986. A gamna scan detected no reactor related activity.

The EPA analyses of the t'RC cutdoor air sample for the period Septc:.her 25 - Octcber 2,1986 shcued that concentrctions of Cs-137 cnd I-131 were belcu the lower licit of quantitative detection (LLD) for the system. The LLD varies arcund a value of IE-13 uCi/cc.

PUBLIC MEETItiG, The next ueeting of the Advisory Panel for the Decentamination of Three Mile Island Unit 2 will be held on October 8,1986 at the Ifoliday Inn, Center City, liarrisburg, PA from 7:00 PM to 10:00 Pli.
At this meeting the licensee vill brief the Panel on the progress of defueling and on the status of fuading for the renaindar of the cleanup.
The EPA will present the results of its recent revicw of the Till offsite radiation monitoring prograu. Members of the public will be given the opportunity to address the panel.
