Dear Sir:
On August 22,1986, Carolina Power & Light Company submitted a license amendment request regarding the hydrogen water chemistry preimplementation test currently planned to be performed in December 1986. In support of issuance of the proposed license amendment, the Staff requested CP&L to provide additional information concerning the storage of the compressed hydrogen to be used for the test.
The Company has verified that the closest approach the hydrogen supply truck will make to the chlorine tank car will be limited to approximately 300 feet. During the test, the hydrogen trailer will be located approximately 420 feet from the chlorine tank car. Any movement of the chlorine tank while the hydrogen supply truck is inside the exclusion area will be controlled to ensure that the chlorine tank car will not be brought closer than approximately 300 feet from the hydrogen supply truck.
