Gentlemen:
SUBJECT: EXAMINATION REPORT NO. 50-029/87-04 (0L)
The week of April 27,. 1987, the NRC administered examinations to employees of
your company who had applied for licenses to operate your Yankee Nuclear Power
Station. At the conclusion of the examination, the ~ examination questions and
preliminary findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified
in the enclosed report.
The Senior Reactor Operator Candidates were evaluated as failures. The fail-
ures were attributed to the facility not teaching integrated plant response /
failure analysis except within the limited bounds of procedural discussions.
A meeting is scheduled for June 3,1987 at the Yankee Nuclear Power Station to
discuss the plans for corrective actions of the noted deficiencies in the
training program. A follow-up meeting will be-conducted in the Region I office-
to. finalize the corrective action plan.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commissions regulations, a copy of this
letter and the enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
