Dear Mr. Kemper:

SUBJECT:
REQUEST FOR PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC COMPANY ASSISTANCE IN A NRC RESEARCH ACTIVITY TO DEVELOP AN PRA-BASED INTERACTIVE SYSTEM (PRISIM)
Our Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research and its contractors, Idaho Nuclear Engineering Laboratory and JBF Associates, are in the process of developing a PRA-based interactive system for assisting inspectors in planning their inspection activities. The system is called the Plant Risk Status Information Management System, or PRISIM, and is briefly described in Enclosure 1.
A version of PRISIM is currently under test and evaluation at the Arkansas Nuclear One facility. Our overall test and evaluation plans include the installation of several versions of PRISIM at NRC Resident Inspector's Offices at nuclear plants where the PRA information is most up-to-date, one of which is Peach Bottom, Unit 2.
To assist in our effort to develop the Peach Bottom Unit 2 PRISIM system, we request your assistance in developing the information listed in Enclosure 2.
l As you know, much of this information has previously been made available to the Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) as authors of the draft report, " Reference Plant Accident Sequence Likelihood Characterization of Peach Bottom, Unit 2."
We would l
i prefer to receive this information directly from you since it would assure us that we have the most up-to-date information.
In the event that you would prefer us to use some or all of the information at SNL and SAIC, we would accept your preferences.
