Results of Environmental Qualification Review of Common Plant Vent Noble Gas Monitor - Regulatory Guide 1.97

Dear Ms. McKenna:

In Reference (h), Yankee committed to review the environmental qualification of the plant vent high-range noble gas monitor and sample pump, and to make j a decision whether to replace, upgrade or document the environmental qualification l of this equipment as is. The staff concurred with this commitment in Reference j (1). This review has been completed, and the results are documented below.

As discussed in Reference (h), the manufacturer of the high-range monitor l has determined that they can document the environmental qualification of the equipment for the postulated post-accident conditions. Yankee has issued I a purchase order to the manufacturer to supply this documentation. Once received, Yankee will review and incorporate this information into our approved Environmental Qualification Program.

Also as discussed in Reference (h), the sample pump and associated components required to provide a sample to the high-range monitor are common to both the high-range and low-range channels. Yankee has completed the review of this equipment and determined that the best solution is to install a dedicated sample line to the high-range monitor.

A United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission FYR 87-053 Page-2 May-27, 1987 Following this modification, the high-range monitor will be completely independent of the low-range channel. All components will be purchased with the required environmental qualification. . The environmental qualification of this equipment will be documented in accordance with Yankee's approved Environmental Qualification Program.

The modifications proposed above and the documentation of the environmental.

qualification of all equipment needed for operation of the common plant vent high-range noble gas monitor will be completed at the Cycle 20/21 refueling.

We trust this information is satisfactory.
