Docket Nos.: 50-327 2 5 NQV 1986 and 50-328 Mr. S.A. White Manager of huclear Power Tennessee Valley Authority 6N 38A Lookout Place 1101 Market Street Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402-2801
Dear Mr. White:
SUBJECT:
Transmittal of Draft Copy of the Evaluation on Equipment Qualificatior.
Under Superheat Conditions for Sequoyah Units 1 and 2 Enclosed is'a draft copy of the staff safety evaluation on Equipment Qualficaton under superheat conditions for Sequoyah, Units 1 and 2.
The staff intends to incorporate this evaluation into the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) on Volume 2 of the Nuclear Performance Plan which addresses Sequoyah.
The purpose of this letter is to transmit the enclosed evaluation to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
As can be seen from the report, the staff finds the calculated component surface temperature profiles acceptable. However, the staff is still evaluating the TVA approach to calculating the internal temperatures of the various components.
Several questions relating to this evaluation were transmitted in my letter dated Noverr.ber 19, 1986.
As noted in ray November 19, 1986 letter, in order for the staff to support the projected restart date for Sequoyah, TVA should provide the additional information requested by December 3, 1986. Any items which affect the Sequoyah Nuclear Performance Plan should be provided under oath or affirmation as revised pages to the Plan.
If you require any additional assistance, please contact the project manager for the Sequoyah SER, Mr. Joseph J. Holonich, at (301) 492-7270.
Sincerely, B.J. Youngblood, Director PWR Project Directorate #4 Division of PUR Licensing-A
