In accordance with our July 28, 1983 telephone conversation I an returning, without NRC action, the July 22, 1983 letter signed by fir. Gavazzi that requests an anendnent to License No. SNil-1605. Fron our telephone conversation and your note on Mr. Gavazzi's letter, I understand that the VA Circular pertaining to pacenakers is being revised to delete nuclear units from the VA progran. Accordingly, the requested anendment is not needed.

I In view of the extensive discussions I have had with Mr. Bowman and i Dr. Fletcher of the VA in Washington, D.C., with you, lis. Malaskiewicz and Dr. Schepers of the VA Central Office and with Mr. Nicolosi of flRC's Region I Office, I believe that it would be helpful to receive a copy of the

original VA circular on the VA's new pacenaker progran. It would also be i

helpful to receive a copy of any subsequent changes to that circular, particularly any showing the final decision by the VA Central Office to exclude nuclear pacemakers fron the VA progran, i
