VIRGINIA El.ECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 CENTRIFUCAL CHARGING PUMP CASING WELDS On August 12, 1982 Virginia Electric and Power Company submitted letter serial No. 471 in response to certain questions that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission had asked about the North Anna Unit 1 inservice inspection program. One of their questions dealt with casing welds on the centrifugal charging pumps.
In our response, we committed to examining the pump and the casing welds, on an interval basis.
Subsequent investigation has revealed that these pumps may be of
- two, interchangeable, designs. Design A uses a welded pump casing while the casing of Design B has no weld. We have verified, through serial number checks with the manufacturer (Pacific Pumps), that all six of North Anna's pumps are of the B design. Therefore, no casing welds exist and no examinations are required.
If you require additional information, please contact me.
Very truly yours, LOL
