Subject: Inspection Report No. 50-271/86-23
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. J. J. Kottan
(
of this office on October 6-10, 1986 at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station,
Vernon, Vermont. The findings of our inspection were discussed with Mr. Reid
of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection of your Chemistry Program consisted of
selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews
'
with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Our Mobile Laboratory was also brought to your site and used byithe inspector
to make certain independent measurements. The purpose of these independent
measurements is to verify your capability for analyzing radioactive effluents,
and to achieve and maintain comparable methods of analyses between your
facility and the NRC. The complete data from these measurements will be
reported in a subsequent Inspection Report.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
In accor-
dance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure will be
placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

is appreciated.
