l 4- Pipe Whip Criteria ,

! This will be a major problem area for the applicant since the containment is an ASEE pressure vessel and is doubtfal that pipe '

restraints can be anchored to the vessel. The applicant is in the very early stages of design for pipe whip, but indicated that '

their criteria would allow breaking some emergency oore cooling water piping. In addition, they were not considering pipe breaks

! in straight zuns of pipe. Daring the discussion we indicated that breaking of emergency core cooling piping would create safety

, problems. We also stated that their design should take into

5 Field Installation of Containment 1 The applicant proposes to use 2" pre-molded polyurethane backed up by 1A" fiber glass between the steel containmast vessel and the biological shield. The urethane will be sealt i

9 service cooling water system i The spray water cooling pond is divided into two sections with each section having sufficient water stormas for aheat 7 days j if maxe up water is lost. The spray water pond is desi6ned to l Seismic Class I criteria whereas the river water pump house l (make up water) is designed to Seismic Class II Criteria. If the two sections of the spray pond can be arranged for manual interconnection there would be sufficient water storage for l about 30 days without water make up. Bovever, if the single
