Gentlemen:
Georgia Power Company's - April 15, 1983, letter to the NRC provided design details of the SPDS presently installed at Plant Hatch.
This letter provides a revision to the details contained in that report.
The color monitors described in our letter were originally qualified in accordance with IEEE 323-1974, even though Section 4.1.c-'of NUREG-0737, Supplement 1, states:
"SPDS need not be. seismically
(
qualified, and additional seismically qualified indication is not required for the sole purpose of being a backup for SPDS."'
Our experience with the installed monitors has been unsatisfactory.
Therefore, we will be replacing them with more readily available commercial _ grade equipment.-
This equipment will not be qualified in accordance with IEEE 323-1974.
However, the SPDS will = continue to meet
~
the requirements-specifled -in. Section 4.i.c of NUREG-0737, Supplement 1, as noted above.
