EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION INSPECTION - QUAD CITIES NUCLEAR PLANT This letter confirms the dates of June 8-12, 1987, for the NRC Environmental Qualification (EQ) Inspection of electrical and instrumentation. equipment, at the Quad Cities Plant. These dates were established during a.May 11, 1987, telephone conversation between Ms. Irene Johnson of your staff and Mr. A. S. Gautam of my staff. The inspection will be performed by a six member inspection team with Mr. A. S. Gautam of the Region III office as lead inspector.

The following areas will be inspected:

'

• Implementation of corrective action commitments addressed in the final Quad Cities EQ Safety Evaluation Report.

• Compliance to EQ regulations of 10 CFR 50.49, including Program Procedures, Master Equipment List, Maintenance, Procurement, Upgrading of Replacement Equipment, Quality Assurance and Employee Training.

• Adequacy of equipment qualification files, including responses to relevant NRC Information Notices and Bulletins.

• Installation and maintenance of selected plant EQ equipment.

• Regulatory Guide 1.97 review.

, A management entrance meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on June 8,1987, at the plant site. A plant walkdown inspection of selected EQ equipment is scheduled for June 10, 1987, and an NRC exit meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on June 12, 1987. To facilitate NRC preparation for this inspection, your staff is requested to submit the following EQ documents no later than June 1, 1987.

1. Licensee's response to Generic Letter 84-24 (D. G. Eisenhut to licensee's and applicants dated December 27, 1984;

2. a. Licensee's list of equipment requiring EQ (Master List submitted in May 1983).

b. Master List, version in effect at the time of the inspection.

c. Licensee's current System Component Evaluation Worksheets (SCEW Sheets).

3. Licensee's procedures applicable to EQ (EQ Program, procurenent of gualified equipment, maintenance of- qualified equipment, Land modifications to plant that could affect qualified equipment).

4. Final NRC EQ SER issued to the plant, and any appropriate licensee responses to the SER.

5. Latest NRC SER on RG 1.97 response, any licensee responses to SER.

The licensee is requested to make a presentation at the entrance meeting te address:

a. Organization Chart with EQ applicability.

b. Overview of EQ Program,

c. Overview of EQ documentation field organization such as how files address meeting EQ criteria (10 CFR 50.49, DOR, NUREG 0588), instrument accuracy,.

and submergence.

d. Arrangements for plant walkdown (the NRC team leader will identify ,

selected equipment samples at the entrance). I Your cooperation with us during.this inspection.will be appreciated.
