One-Time Shipment Exemption Change m I d. \\W

(1) liittman Letter IIN-0-0733, Dated April 14,198 (2) NRC Letter Dated June 11, 1986

Dear bir. hiacDonald:

During your evaluation of the request in llN-0-0733, hir. Odegaarden requested additional isotopic information on liners 19 and 23.

A detailed isotopic analysis was received from GPU Nuclear Corporation and the infor-g

t mation relayed verbally to b!r. Odegaarden.

Shortly after receipt of your letter dated June 11, 1986, and prior to " W r

f impicmentation of the shipments, a final confirmatory check was made by liittman to be certain that the conditions in your letter were being met. It is at this time that I discovered a discrepancy between the Sr-90 data for liner 19 originally supplied to us by GPU and that provided in the latest isotopic analysis.

This most recent infarmation shows that the specific activity of Sr-90 in liner 19 is 0.027 milli Ci/gm. This is greater than the 0.013 milli Ci/gm identified in my Ictter and listed as a condition in your exemption. All other conditions and circumstances of IIN-0-0733 are still applicable.

Therefore, this letter is to request a change to the one-time shipment exemption that would allow liner 19 to be transported to the disposal site in a llN-100 Series 2 cask with a specific activity for Sr-90 of 0.027 milli Ci/gm.

I again look forward to a favorable response from you on this requested change and apologize for consuming additional staff time on this matter.

Thank you for your consideration of a change to the original exemption.

Very truly yours, llg e
