SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE UNIT THREE APRIL, 1987 04/01/87 to 04/30/87 Unit 3 entered the month operating at 812 MWe-and operated until 2335 hours0.027 days <br />0.649 hours <br />0.00386 weeks <br />8.884675e-4 months <br /> of April 9th, when the unit was manually scrammed because of low main condenser vacuum and condensate demineralizer inlet temperature high and increasing. After determina-tions of causes and corrective action were completed.

l the reactor was made critical on April 12th at 1520 hours0.0176 days <br />0.422 hours <br />0.00251 weeks <br />5.7836e-4 months <br />. Condenser in-leakage investigation continued for several days through April 20th. The "C" low pres-sure turbine bearing cor.e waste water and oil drain i

piping to the turbine building equipment sump, which is routed through the main condenser, was determined to have broken. This drain piping, which is normally at turbine building ambient pressure, was discovered to be under vacuum. This indicated that it had broken inside the main condenser resulting in air in-leakage at the bearing collection and sump ends of the drain piping. After repairs to the turbine building oil l

drain line were completed, the turbine was brought on-line April 21st at 2156 hours0.025 days <br />0.599 hours <br />0.00356 weeks <br />8.20358e-4 months <br />. The unit rematned on-line the remainder of the month, reaching a power level of 686 MWe with an availability of 60.17% and a capa-city factor of 50.45%. Unit load was maintained at this level due to a problem with the.3C2 low pressure heater which required the number 2 heater string to be isolated.
