1.0 INTRODUCTION
I This test procedure will be utilized to evaluate the effect of weld repairs on the 18 in. diameter encapsulation vessel expansion joint bellows by testing of a facsimile bellows in accordance with Code I Case N-315, 2.0 EQUIPMENT The following is a list of equipmer.t to be used in this test:
a) Prototype Bellows b) Test Fixture c) Surpreme Leak Detector Solution 5440 Type 3-C d) Camera e) Compressed Helium f) 0-120 PSIG Calibrated Pressure Gage No. PB-16 3.0 TEST PROCEDURE -
The following are sequential steps.
- 1. Perform receiving inspection of test bellows. Determine if
.I existing dents should be repaired so as not to hinder testing of repair weld.
- 2. Perform hydotest of expansion joint at 90 psig in presence
! of ANI.
- 3. Weld end plates on expansion joint. (Note: protect
,I bellows from weld splatter)
- 4. Mount the damaged prototype test bellows in the test I fixture and make necessary electrical and mechanical connections.
- 5. Photograph test setup and fill out the Log Sheet.
- 7. Adjust limit switches to produce axial movement of (See Table) inches from a neutral bellows length of 17.27 I inches.
- 8. Photograph test setup and fill out Log Sheet.

3.0 TEST PROCEDURE - Continued l
- 9. With internal pressure maintained at (See Table) PSIG minimum perform cycle testing at a rate of approximately 10 CPM for (See Table) cycles keeping the outside surface or bellows saturated with leak detector solution.
- 10. After (See Table) cycles, photograph test setup and fill
[ out Iog Sheet.
- 11. With bellows at length of 13 in., increase pressure to 90 c
PSIG and check for leakage in presence of ANI.
- 12. Photograph test setup and fill out Iog Sheet.
c
- 13. Reduce internal pressure to zero and perform 100% PT examination of completed weld repair in presence of ANI.
l 14. Fill out Iog Sheet and photograph failure.
- 15. Prepare the formal test report.

l 4.0 TEST RESULTS CYCLES REMARKS 0-10 INCL. Started test at 5:00 PM on 10/10/86. Set bellows length at 17. 27 in , pressure at 75 Psig min, and movement at 8.69 in compression. Bellows instability
' (squirm) noted when bellows compressed under pressure.
Movement was increased for cycle #3 only to bottom out bellows and align cowvolutions. Completed ten (10) cycles and checked for leaks - none found.
J 11-70 INCL. Set pressure at 15 PSIG min., movement at 8.69 in.
comp., and bellows length at 17.27 in. Completed sixty (60) cycles and checked for leaks - none found.71-418 INCL. Set Pressure at 15 PSIG min., movements at 3.96 in.
^ comp., and length at 17.27 in. Completed 348 cycles and checked for leaks - none found. Completed test at
~
4:00 PM on 10/11/86.
c Final hydrotest and PT were not perfomred at Pathway.
5.0 CONCLUSION
S Weld repair of f acsimile bellows did not leak after fatigue testing in accordance with code case N-315.
