to gataer information abcut (but not the data themselves) environmental data tnat have Oeen. Or are being Collected in Ohio. This letter 50ecifical,1y is to inquire as to wne.ner you or your Dusiness or agency, makes routine weather observations, or whetner you know of someone, or other agency who does. If the latter, would you oleise either forward this letter to her/him, or send us their name so that we may Contact them directly.

Specifically, we want to identify the existence, location, chacteristics and availability of weather, climate and other environmental data from Ohio, data.that nave Oeen acauired for several years, and with regularity. Descriptive information concerning the observations will be placed into a centralized computer bank in Wash-ington (scecifically located in the NEDRES of fice) to which you, other individuals, c0mesnies and other private and public agencies may inquire as to the existence of, 3M tne availability of such data. NEDRES will not collect the actual data tnem-5-lves, but only a description of the data, e.g., which parameters were/are being measured, location of the site (s), period of observations etc. When this data bank ete:mes fully operational, one will be able to incuire as to the availaDility of tem-perature or precipitation data from a certain location and for a soecific time Cerdcd, merely by phoning NEDRES from a terminal equipped with a mocem.

I write to you to inquire whether you make such observations yourself, or anetner you know of others who routinely have, or are making weather observations, who we may contact for more information. If you have such information, or if you ecw of someone who does, we request that the attached form be completed and returned to us. By the way, there is no need to give the names or addresses of. people or wentner stations who take observations for the National Weather Service, as we 31re3cy nave that information. We will supply the information that you supply on the enclosed form to NEDRES, who will place it in their referral service data bank, from whicn incuiries may be made. ,

Please understand that if and when inquiries for data are received, the holder of the data may permit or refuse the request, or permit a partial fulfillment of the recuest; and may change for the service (these choices will be made by the holder of the data). Will you please return the completed forms to me by 15 November 1986. If you know of others whom I might Contact, please list their names and addresses on tne forms as well.
