Dr. J. Nelson Grace SPR 86-014 Attachment October 31, 1986 EVENT DESCRIPTION On October 8, 1986, during scheduled surveillance testing of Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) "B", the local operator observed a lube oil leak on the rocker arm lube oil duplex filter. The operation of the unit was not jeopardized; however, the operator, knowing that the unit was in a test status, opted to have the unit secured. The unit was secured from the Main Control Board and Maintenance was notified.

Maintenance personnel transferred filters isolating the lube oil leak.

The filter associated with the leak was changed, the EDG retested and tested satisfactorily.

This is classified as a non-valid test failure in accordance with the criteria of Reg. Guide 1.108 because the operator opted to secure the unit only because it was in a test status. Had the unit been operating as the result of a valid condition, the operator could have transferred filters or notified Maintenance that a transfer of filters was required.

At the present time Emergency Diesel Generator "B" is being tested every thirty-one days.
