Safe Shutdown Capability in the Event of a Fire

Dear Ms. McKenna:

The USNRC in Reference (b), approved the design of Yankee's dedicated Safe Shutdown System for use in the Event of a Fire at Yankee Nuclear Power Station and requested that notification be made when this system is operational.

Yankee has completed all necessary plant modifications and required operator training for this system, and on March 25, 1987 declared the dedicated Safe Shutdown System operational for use in the event of a fire.

We trust that you will find this information satisfactory; however, if you have any questions please contact us.
