DOCKET N0:
70_371 LICENSEE:
UNC Naval Products Division of UNC Resources, Inc.
FACILITY:
~Montville, Connecticut
SUBJECT:
SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT, AMENDMENT APPLICATION DATED ftAY 30, 1986 RE INSPECTION TABLE Backgrolnd UNC inepects specified components on a table during the fabrication processes.
In the amendment application, UNC requests authority to have one container of components on the table as well as the components to be inspected.
Discuss'g The applicant has calculated the neutron interaction between the stack of comprnents in a container and the planar array of components on the inspection table. The applicant used boundary conditions for the KENO-IV calculation which approximates an infinite planar array of inspection tables. The applicant reported a k-effecti /e of 0.9032.
The applicant smeared the fuel in the component over the assigned space on the inspection table. This is slightly non-conservative for components which could be in close contact with the con-tainer of components. The staff agrees, however, that the k-effective is about 0.9.
Conclusion / Recommendation The staff concludes that che container of specified components can safely be processed in a container and on the specified component inspection table.
Approval of the application is recommended.
