POWER COMPANY REGARDING THE SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT IMPROVED STANDARD TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION CONVERSION SCHEDULE

l A meeting was held on Thursday, October 2, 1997, for the Nuclear Regulatory 1 Commission (NRC) staff and the licensee to discuss the staff's review schedule i for the South Texas Project (STP) improved standard technical specification '

(ISTS) conversion amendment. The meeting was held at the request of the licensee at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. A notice of this was issued on September 18, 1997. Attachment 1 is the list of attendees.

L The purpose of the meeting was for the licensee to better understand the staff's schedule for reviewing the STP ISTS conversion amendment. William Beckner of the NRC's Technical Specifications Branch informed the licensee that due to the number of conversion amendments currently before the staff,

. Lthe schedule for the review of the STP conversion amendment has slipped. At

. this time, the staff is predicting issuance of the draft safety evaluation '

V' - report (SER) in August 1998, with a final amendment to be issued in Octoberi

+' . 1998. The licensee explained that with that schedule, it would plan for; n' implementation of the new ISTS at the end of 1998.
