Dear Mr..c liock:

o This letter is in response to your application dated February 21,1997, requesting an amendment to Registration Certificate NR 504-D 109-G to add a number of sealed source models. We are current!y processing your request. However, to continue with our evaluation, we need the following information:

Construction 1.

The current registration certificate (NR 504-D-109-G) lists source assemblies that accept Nuclear Research Corporation Model S-6 source capsules with the dimensions of dia. 0.325-0.470 in. However, the source capsules that you listed in your amendment have different dimensions; e.g. dia. 0.50-0.75 in. for Texas Nuclear Model 57157C, or dia. 8-12 mm for Bebig Model Cs7.PO4. Please provide technical data and drawings for all source assemblies that will be used to fit the five different models of source capsules which you proposed in the amendment.

External Radiation Levels L

Source assemblies of different designs may alter the radiation profile around the gauge.

Therefore, please provide complete analyses of the radiation profiles for the SH-300 Series gauges equipped with each of the source assemblies that you intend to use in l

response to item 1 above.

L Leak Test Frequency i

3.

The current registration certificate specifies a leak test frecuency of 3 years. Please provide a documentation that the sources are accen'able for an extended leak test interval. The provisions of 10 CFR 32.51(b) describe the information that you must f

supply.

Regarding the designation of 'Kay Ray Model 7700"in your request, please note that Registration Certificate No. IL-412-S-128-S specifies the sourco series with the designation l-
