20555 PRDPOSER AMENDMENT NO. 145 - RESPONSE TO NRC INQUIRY
Dear Mr. Stolz:
Proposed Amendment No. 145, originally submitted on September 22, 1986, requested NRC approval of (1) a redefinition of " Refueling Interval" to make the wording consistent with the Standard Technical Specifications, and of (2) a waiver from surveillance of the reactor vessel internal vent valves until the Cycle 8 refueling.
Subsequent to the original submittal, the NRC (Mr. George Kalman) verbally requested that SMUD provide (1) details on the materials and dimensions of the internal vent valves and (2), an assessment of whether the valves sustained any significant corrosion since their last surveillance in 1985 (Cycle 7 outage).
Transmitted herewith are two attachments which provide the information requested by the NRC.
These are: : B&W Uocument No. 51-1167259-00 SMUD Vent Valves Material and Hinge Clearances : B&W Document No. 51-1167330-00, Materials-Chemistry Assessment for Internal Vent Valves.
Should you require any further information with respect to Proposed Amendment No. 145, please contact f1r. Ron W. Colombo at Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station.

- f. Stolz, Dir;ct:r JEW 87-135 The District repeats the earlier request for prompt review of Proposed Amendment No. 145, since if disapproved, surveillance of the internal vent valves would have to be performed before restart of the plant. Also, if the proposed amendment is approved, the District further requests that the 3.25 time intervals factor be reset to begin after the next surveillance.
-Sincerely, Sworn to and subscribed before me this c70thday of February, 1987.
