Quarry By [[letter::IA-86-512, Responds to FOIA Request.App Documents,Including NUREG-0020, NUREG-0030,NUREG-0090 & 691121 Rept to ACRS, Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant, Available in PDR|letter dated July 24, 1986]], the Detroit Edison Company (DECO) submitted information regarding the operation of the subject quarry, located about 3 miles
. north-northeast of the Fermi-2 plant site. The information was submitted in response to concerns expressed by the NRC relative to the potential effects of explosives used at the quarry on the safe operation of. Fermi-2.
The NRC staff has reviewed the information submitted-in terms of potential accidental explosions and their effects on the Femi-2 plant. The hazards reviewed included air blast and ground motion effects as well as groundwater
. contamination due to dewatering activities at the RSI quarry. The staff's independent assessment, which is enclosed, indicates that the operation of the RSI quarry and the air blast effects on the plant are insignificant with respect to potential ground motion at the plant site due to accidental explosions.-
However, it is requested that Deco submit a confimatory analysis to confim the-insignificance of such a hazard.
Please advise me, within seven days after receipt of this letter, when we may expect to receive the confirmatory analysis requested.
