ss NOTICE OF VIOLATION 8 l Michigan State University Docket No. 50-294 License No. R-114 ,
i During NRC inspections conducted on June 19 and 26, 1986, a violation of NRC requirements was identified. In accordance with the " General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions," 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C, the violation is listed below.
Technical Specification 4.3.3 for the University TRIGA Reactor requires the j area radiation monitoring system to be calibrated annually and verified to be L.
operable at weekly intervals.
Contrary to the above, area radiation monitoring system calibrations in
'1981-1984 were inadequate in that certain calibrations were in error by as much as 50%-100% each year due to incorrectly calculated radiation levels associated with a cobalt-60 calibration source.
