Subject:

Docket Nos. 50-361 and 50-362 Follow-up Report, Inoperable Fire Doors - November 1986 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2 and 3

Reference:

Letter, H. E. Morgan (SCE) to J. B. Martin (NRC),

dated November 10, 198,6 In accordance with our referenced letter, this submittal provides the follow-up report of Technical Specification fire-rated assemblies (specifically fire doors) found inoperable during routine surveillances in November 1986.

Fire doors found inoperable during the November routine surveillances are identified in the Attachment and include: 14 latching mechanism failures, 2 closure mechanism failures, and 1 door blocked open typically for operation and maintenance activities. As each of these deficiencies was identified, compensatory fire watches, pursuant to Technical Specification 3.7.9, Action Statement 'a', were established.

Door mechanism failures are being corrected on an "as found" basis.

The responsible party was not identified for the 1 fire door found blocked open.
