The Commission was briefed on the lessons learned from the Chernobyl accident and the staff's evaluation of the regulatory implications.
Chairman Zech requested the staff to resubmit the attachment to SECY-87-25 with editorial changes by Friday, February 13, 1987.
(Subsequently, on February 13, 1987, the EDO resubmitted NUREG-1251 to the Commission.)
Commissioner Asselstine requested the staff to inform the Commission of nuclear installations which share systems between units as part of their shutdown capability.

The Commission also requested the staff to review in more detail containment venting systems and filtering and their associated cost and benefit.
The Commission also encouraged the staff to carefully review our operator training and education requirements and determine if the Soviet experience from the Chernobyl accident could shed light on improving our training requirements.
Commissioner Carr urged the staff to provide fire departments, that may be called upon to combat fires, and nuclear power plants with the appropriate lessons learned from the Chernobyl fire on a continuing basis, cc:
