THERMAL SHIELD SUPPORT SYSTEM INSPECTION DEFERRAL - FORT CALHOUN STATION, UNIT NO. 1 The NRC staff has completed its review of your August 28, 1986 request, to defer the commitment made in your April 4, 1984 ' setter to inspect the thermal shield support system during the 1987 refueling outage.

The staff's Safety Evaluation is enclosed.

The staff concludes that the deferral of the thermal shield support system inspection during the 1987 refueling outago is acceptable contingent upon l

OPPD's commitment to submit additional analyses of the Internals Vibration Monitoring System, as discussed in Section 5.0 of the enclosed Safety Evaluation, within 6 months of the date of this letter.

Please provide your commitment in this regard within 30 days of the receipt of this letter.
