in each instance, to inspect and monitor the loading of each package to verify: g

- 12. The licensee must receive the loaded shipping package at the' loading dock, or I equivalent location, at the NRC licensed facility from which the shipment will I originate. Once accepted, legal responsibility for the loaded package must I rest with General Electric Company. The licensee, in accordance with the I provisions of 10 CFR 71.12, must then deliver.the loaded package to the I carrier for transport. 4

APPROVAL RECOPD Material License No. SNM-1270, Amendment No. 5 -
Docket No. 70-1220 By application dated March 24, 1997, General Electric Company requested renewal of Special Nuclear Material License No. SNM-1270. The license authorizes General Electric to possess special nuclear material, which may be irradiated, in packages approved pursuant to 10 CFR Part 71, for the purpose of delivery of this material to a carrier for transport and in )rivate carriage. The license only applies to material used in researci and development activities as defined in 10 CFR Part 70.4, No changes to the 4
license have been requested since approval of General Electric Company's renewal application dated February 12, 1987.
The license is being renewed for a five year term which expires on September 30, 2002.
