J Catawba Nuclear Station Response to '86 Exercise Weakness Items Item No. 50-413/86-08-01 & 50-414/86-10-01 Failure to classify a Site Area Emergency.
Response
Catawba Nuclear Station has conducted training on emergency classification and has revised it's emergency classification procedures and Health Physics procedures to ensure that radiological indications of a situation causing a SAE are not overlooked in the future.
Further training and drills will be conducted to emphasize the effect of radiological monitors on identification of emergencies. Training on this item will be complete by Dec. 12, 1986.
Item No. 50-413/86-08-03 & 50-414/86-10-03 Failure of the TSC Field Monitoring Coordinator to effectively direct field teams to locate and define the plume.
Response
Catawba Nuclear Station has developed a new field monitoring strategy to be used in locating and defining a radioactive plume. Training on this item will be complete by Dec. 12, 1986.
Item No. 50-413/86-08-04 & 50-414/86-10-04 Failure to identify and factor into accident assessement and mitigation critical parameters contributing to the accident and major effects resulting therefrom.
Response
Catawba Nuclear Station has conducted training on emergency situations as described in this item.
Further training and drills will be conducted to emphasize the relationship between source term and offsite radiological levels.
Training on this item will be complete by Dec. 12, 1986.
