SUBJECT:

COMANCHE FEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CA8LE TRAY SPLICES / CONNECTIONS SDAR: CP-86-52 (INTERIN REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On July 25, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. I. Barnes of a deficiency involving the splices / connections used for cable trays in Units I and 2.

This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). We have submitted an interim report logged TXX-4981, dated August 22, 1986.

This issue was identified during as-built activities for the Unit 2 Cable Tray Hangers. We have established that splices / connections used for some tray types and sizes were not installed in accordance with specified splice patterns as defined by the cable tray manufacturer or approved design change documents.

I Although the deviations do not appear to impair the functional capability of the trays, steps are being taken to provide a more definitive determination.

A testing program is being initiated to evaluate these conditions. Completien of this testing is estimated for mid November,1986.

Evaluation of test results and identification of corrective actions, if required, will be performed at that time.
