Box 399 Hwy. 75 - North of Fort Calhoun Fort Calhoun, Nebraska 68023-0399 SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50 285/9716 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION > Dear Mr. Gambhir: An NRC inspection was conducted August 3 through September 13,1997, at your Fort Calhoun Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection. Based on the results of this inspection, two violations were identified. The first violation involved two examples of failing to follow procedures. The inspectors identified that proper calibration of an electronic dosimeter was not maintained. The inspectors also determined that proper radiation control procedures were not followed when working in a contaminated area. In the second violation, the inspectors identified that the procedure used for door lock maintenance was Hadequate in that no postmaintenance test of the
doors was required, resulting in two doors being locked and inaccessible using the door keys. , These violations are cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances surrounding the violations are described in detailin the enclosed report. [[ Please note that you are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice when preparing your response. The NRC will use your response, in part, to determine whether further enforcement ection is necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its enclosures, and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR). To the extent possible, your response should not include any personal privacy, proprietary, , or safeguards information so that it can be placed in the PDR without redaction.
