SUBJECT:

ACCEPTANCE FOR REFERENCING OF GENERIC LICENSE RENEWAL PROGRAM TOPICAL REPORT ENTITLED, " DEMONSTRATION OF THE MANAGEMENT OF AGING EFFECTS FOR THE PRESSURIZER," BAW 2244, AUGUST 1995 l

Dear Mr. Firth:

1 The staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), has reviewed your topical report entitled," Demonstration of the Management of Aging Effects for the Pressurizer," BAW 2244, for reference by Babcock and Wilcox owners Group (B&WOG) Generic License Renewal Program (GLRP) member plants. The resultant final I

safety evaluation report (SER) is transmitted to you as an enclosure to this letter.

As indicated in the SER, the staff found your tepical report acceptable for referencing in a license renewal application to the extent specified and under the limitations delineated in this staff SER and the associated topical report. The limitations include committing to the accepted aging rnanagement programs defined therein, completing the action items described in the SER, Section 4.1, and resolving the two remaining open items described in Section 4.2 of the SER. In referencing the topical report and meeting these limitations, an applicant will provide sufficient information for the staff to make a finding that there is reasonable assurance that the applicant will adequately manage the effects of aging so that the presstrizer intended function within the scope of the report will be maintained consistent with the current licensing basis during the period of extended operation.

The staff does not intend to repeat its review of the matters described in the report and found acceptable in the SER when the report appears as a reference in license renewal applications, except to ensure that the material presented applies to the specified plant, in accordance with the procedures established in NUREG-0390, " Topical Report Review Status,"

the staff requests that the B&WOG publish the accepted version of BAW 2244 within 3 months after receiving this letter. The published version shall incorporate this letter and the enclosed SER between the title page and the abstract. ' 47lb 7 h3 i mLm RW. f%ITS EEN 9708210252 970018 DR TOPRP ENVF A
