,J ENCLOSURE filation Blackout Diesel Generator Out of Service for Greater Than Ten Dan This Report is being submitted due to the Station Blackout AAC source (2C Diesel Generator (DG)) not being restored to operable status within the time required by Technical Specification (TS) 6.8.1. The Station Blackout AAC Reliability Program (TS 6.8.1), requires that the NRC be notified if the AAC source is out of service for greater than 10 days.
At 0651 on July 21,- 1997, the 2C DG was removed from service for a scheduled outage to perform preventive and ~ corrective maintenance. The scheduled work included 18 month frequency preventive maintenance tasks and the replacement of the Intercooler, Jacket Water and Lube Oil Heat Exchanger tube bundles. Various minor leaks and other corrective maintenance Mms were also scheduled for repair. Per the original schulule, the 2C DG was to be returned t
< ice at approximately 0600 on July 26,1997.
Following maintenance and partial reassembly activities, the Jacket Water system was filled and vented and a hydrostatic test was performed. This test revealed a leak in the # 12 cylinder -
liner which was subsequently replaced. The required cylinder replacement activities resulted in a revised outage schedule and a projected return to service of 2C DG at approximately 0330 on July 30,1997. At approximately 0800 on July ~29, it was discovered that two dowel pins were missing from the # 3 and # 5 main bearings. Investigation and resolution of the missing dowel pin _s caused an additional delay in the return to sersice of the 2C DG. Final reassembly.
and testing activities were completed and the 2C DG was retunied to service at 0925 on" August 2,1997. During the timeframe that 2C DG was out of service, the remaining four emergency diesel generators remained operable and no problems were noted on the normal off site AC povier sources.-
Additional Information No similar Reports have been submitted for the Station Blackout AAC source (2C DG) exceeding the TS 6.8.1 restoration time.
