INCLUSION OF THE NUCLEAR MATERIALS EVENTS DATABASE ITEM NUMBER ON EVENT-RELATED DOCUMENTS ~
1.0 Purposa -
This procedure is designed to improve the speed and reliability of the distribution and
- processing of event-related documents into the Nuclear Materials Events Database (NMED) and to ensure that these documents are readily retrievable by NRC staff.
2.0 Backaround The Director, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards has requested that all event-related documents be labeled with a unique identif;er that can be used to ensure proper distribution and processing of these documents. To avoid the creation of another event tracking system, it was determined that the NMED item number will serve as the unique identifier.
3.0.
Event-Related Documents that Need to Reference the NMED item Number Documents such as moming reports, preliminary notdications (PNs), and event notifications that are go.1erated upon first notification of an event or incident do not need to reference the item number. These documents are typically entered into NMED by the contractor within two to three days. However, all subsequent documents should reference the NMED item number, including updated PNs, inspection reports, enforcement actions, consultants' reports, and any other event related documents. Event related documents from licensees, such as 304ay event reports, that have not gone through the Document Control Desk (DCD) should reference the item number before being sent to DCD for an accession number.
4.0 Obtainina the Acorooriate NMED item Number The item number can be obtained directly from NMED by searching for the appropriate event.
The six digit number is located in the field " Item No:" on the upper left side of the event window. The following are two ways to quickly find the appropriate events in NMED.
Search the event or report date fields.
Search for the event through the licensee name field.
5.0 Referencina.the NMED ltem Number -
The reference should be as follows: NMED ltem Number. XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is the appropriate NMED! tem number. This reference shall be placed in the lower right comer of the document cover page (or first page).
