Byron Station Units 1 and 2 Technical Specifications Ultimate Heat Sinks (UHS) Cooling Towers NRC Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 Reference (a): August 13, 1986 letter from I. M. Johnson to H. R. Denton.
Dear Mr. Denton:
Reference (a) requested an amendment to Appendix A, Technical Specifications of Facility License NPP-37.
The amendment involves changing the control room indication for the Ultimate Heat Sinks (UHS) Cooling Towers.
The proposed change would revise the instrument indication for 873.75 feet Mean Sea Level (MSL) to read 50% instead of 86% of the total volume of the UHS cooling towers as is currently indicated in the Byron Station Technical Specifications.
In the No Significant Hazards Consideration of Reference (a), a statement was made indicating that the actual volume of water in the cooling towers is unaltered through the license amendment. A more proper statement would be that the volume of water in the UHS Cooling Towers is not being decreased through the license amendment. This change could, however, allow operation with water in higher regions of the cooling towers by increasing the volume of water put through it.
Water level will not decrease below minimum acceptable levels as a result of this license amendment.
