NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-1201/99-202

Dear Mr. Carr:

This refers to the Nuclear Criticality and Chemical Safety (NCS) inspection by members of the Headquarters staff conducted on July 16,1999, at your Lynchburg Manufacturing Facility (LMF) in Lynchburg, VA. The purpose of this inspection was to determine whether activities authorized by your license were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC requirements. At the conclusion of the inspection, an exit briefing was conducted with those members of your staff j

identified in the enclosed report.

Areas examined in the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and relevant records, interviews with facility employees, and observation of activities in progress. Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified and your facility was found to be operating safely and in compliance with the criticality safety requirements of your license. Three open follow-up items in the criticality safety area were closed, and one program weakness was identified. LMF Management has made a commitment to correct the identified weakness.
